About Col. Leon H. Washington Park

Col. Leon H. Washington Park is named after the founder of the Eastside Shopper, the newspaper now known as the Los Angeles Sentinel.

The park is best known for basketball. It is home to the Drew League, one of its most popular programs, which is known across Southern California for drawing top NBA players. League games are played every weekend from May through August, more than 155 games a season. The 2011 NBA lockout gave players more time to spend in their communities, and pros including LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, James Harden, Matt Barnes, and Trevor Ariza have come to the park to play against local competition.
