About Antioch/Oakley Regional Shoreline
Antioch/Oakley Regional Shoreline is a small riverside park built around a 550-foot fishing pier on the San Joaquin River, just upstream of the Highway 160 bridge. When the state built that bridge, former Senator John Nejedly, who had helped the Park District acquire the land in 1979, suggested reusing pillars from the old bridge for the pier; the bridge now carries his name. The park itself is leased from the State of California at no cost and was renamed in 1999 when Oakley became a city.
The pier is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year, even though the rest of the park closes from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Depending on the season, anglers catch striped bass, channel catfish, sturgeon, steelhead, and salmon; a state license is required for anyone 16 or older, but no District fishing permit. Swimming is not allowed, and there is no overnight camping or picnicking.
There is no parking or entry fee. Picnic tables with barbecues sit on wheelchair-friendly pads beside paved paths in the meadow, along with an accessible restroom and drinking fountains; tables are first-come, first-served. From Highway 160, take the Wilbur Avenue exit, turn right, then left on Bridgehead Road to the park at its north end.
