About Val Verde Community Regional Park

Val Verde Community Regional Park began in 1937, when Harry M. Waterman donated 50 acres to the county for a park. It has since grown to about 58 acres of rural parkland among mature oak trees on W. Arlington Road.

In the 1950s, affluent African Americans traveled out from the city to this area for recreation. The park soon became a community gathering place, home to the annual Coronation Ball and the Green Valley Festival Parade, and the county describes it today as the cultural and recreational center of the Val Verde community.

The grounds include a swimming pool and a wading pool, tennis and basketball courts, baseball, softball, and soccer fields, horseshoe pits, hiking trails, a teen center, and camping sites. Concerts in the park, junior lifeguards, water polo, wrestling, yoga, cooking, and tiny tots classes are among the listed programs.
