About Vasquez Rocks Natural Area and Nature Center

Vasquez Rocks Natural Area covers 945 acres in the small town of Agua Dulce, on the site of Mapipinga, an ancestral village of the Tataviam people. The county highlights three things here: the striking rock formations, protected habitat for native plants and animals, and a long cultural history. The rocks have also appeared in many films, television shows, and commercials.

An interpretive center anchors the park, with animal ambassadors and educational programs. Hiking and equestrian trails cross the park, including a stretch of the Pacific Crest Trail, and there are picnic tables, an amphitheater, an equestrian staging area, and a group campground. The center leads bird walks, nature and plant walks, and animal presentations.

The only drinking fountain is inside the interpretive center and can be used only while the center is open. The park is closed Mondays. From November through February, staff are on site 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the restrooms close at 4:30 p.m.
