About Marina Beach

Marina Beach, known locally as “Mother's Beach,” is a human-made beach inside Marina del Rey. It was developed as part of the marina in 1957 and dedicated in 1965. There is no surf in the swimming area, which makes it a safe place for children.

The beach runs for almost half a mile next to the intersection of Admiralty Way and Via Marina and is reached from Parking Lot 10. It has volleyball courts, picnic areas, barbecues, showers, restrooms, and playground equipment for young children. Windsurfing and kayaking are popular, and restaurants are within walking distance.

On July 2, 2026, the Department of Beaches and Harbors completed improvements that renovated and expanded the restroom and office building and added dry boat storage, picnic shelters, barbecue grills, a promenade, a beach access mat, better site access, and new landscaping.
