About Topanga County Beach

Topanga County Beach has more than a mile of ocean frontage and is described as the first real beach in Malibu. It is one of the most popular surf spots in the area, but the waves break over cobblestones and reef, so it is not a good place to swim. Visitors also come to windsurf, scuba dive, fish, and sunbathe, and lifeguards are on duty during daylight hours.

The beach has 96 parking spaces in a paid lot, plus street parking, along with restrooms, showers, a picnic area, stairs to the beach, and an access mat on the sand. It is at 18700 Pacific Coast Highway, and Metro Bus 534 stops at Pacific Coast Highway and Topanga Canyon.

Topanga was once a state beach. It became county-owned in 1995, when Los Angeles County received grant deeds for eight beaches from the State of California.
