About Dos Picos Park
Dos Picos County Park in Ramona takes its name, Spanish for “two peaks,” from the two large mountains nearby. The surrounding ranchland and steep, rocky slopes keep it quiet.
The park is set up for overnight stays, with partial hook-up sites, tent sites, ADA-accessible cabins, a youth group area, and coin-operated showers. Day visitors will find picnic tables, horseshoe pits, soccer fields, a covered pavilion, and restrooms, and fishing at the nearby lake is popular. The park also hosts weddings and special events. Day use runs from 9:30 a.m. to sunset, and day-use parking is $5.
A mix of chaparral, open grassland, and oak trees supports the wildlife. Coast live oaks are common, and Engelmann oaks grow here as well. Coyotes, foxes, opossums, skunks, and raccoons are all seen in the park. Birds include great blue herons, egrets, ducks, red-shouldered hawks, woodpeckers, and western bluebirds. California quail move about in the early morning, and resident barn, screech, and great horned owls call in the evening. The county's Discovery Kit Program gives children an outdoor lesson about the environment.
