About Hellyer County Park

Hellyer County Park is a 178-acre urban park with Coyote Creek running through its center. Tall trees, dense vegetation, and creek habitat support a wide range of wildlife and make it a quiet break from the surrounding city.

The park's playground has a 30-foot-high play structure with an enclosed slide, bridges, swings, and a cargo-net climbing course, plus a rock-formation splash pad with jets, waterfalls, and sprinklers that runs from April 1 to October 1. A separate toddler area has sand play, climbing, slides, swings, and musical play pieces. Fishing is allowed year-round at Cottonwood Lake and during fishing season in Coyote Creek.

Hellyer is also home to an Olympic-size velodrome, an open-air, banked concrete track that hosts professional and amateur bicycle races. The park's activities also include an off-leash dog park, disc golf, horseshoes, volleyball, biking, and hiking, and leashed dogs are welcome elsewhere in the park. Family picnic areas are first come, first served all year, and group areas can be reserved for a fee. Agents of Discovery, a free mobile game in English and Spanish, starts near the playground and teaches about the park's history and wildlife in 30 to 45 minutes.

The park is open from 8 a.m. to sunset, and trails open at sunrise. A vehicle entry fee applies year-round. The Cottonwood and Velodrome entrances on Hellyer Avenue both have paid parking, restrooms, and hydration stations.
