About Metcalf Motorcycle County Park

Metcalf Motorcycle County Park is built for off-highway riding. It has a motocross competition track, a mini-motocross track for bikes up to 150cc four-stroke or 100cc two-stroke, a beginner's oval, 12 miles of beginner and intermediate trails, 8 miles of expert single-track enduro trails, a hill climb area, and three trials obstacle courses. A 1/20-mile paved oval is run by the Baylands Quarter Midget Racing Association. Shaded picnic areas, restrooms, a visitor center, and vending machines serve riders, but the office does not lend tools.

All trails are one-way, with direction and difficulty marked on posts, and only motorcycles may use the motocross track and the expert (black diamond) trails. Riders must sign a waiver, wear a fastened DOT-approved helmet, and ride without passengers. Vehicles need current registration and a U.S. Forest Service-approved spark arrester, and they must meet state sound limits of 96 dBA for most vehicles built since 1986. Electric off-road bikes with foot pegs are allowed if they are DMV-registered; e-bikes with pedals are not. Visitors from other states without a current home registration need a $30 California Nonresident OHV Use Permit. A free Junior OHV Ranger program teaches riders ages 9 to 12 basic skills, safety gear, etiquette, and trail conservation with certified coaches.

The park is open Thursday through Monday, including holidays on those days, and closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. It opens at 8 a.m. and closes between 4:30 p.m. in December and 8 p.m. from May through July. Vehicle entry fees, including for dual-sport motorcycles, are collected year-round.
